The World’s Most Expensive Wine

Wine-Searcher.com has published a very interesting study based on a comparison of numerous wine-selling sites across the globe, a study, which has identified the world’s most expensive wine.

The ranking proposed by this site was determined by the average price of a standard bottle of wine (75 cl), across all available vintages. The lucky winner of this accolade can fetch a ticket-price of up $14,819 per bottle.

Without any further ado, we are delighted to announce that the world’s most expensive wine is… Henri Jayer Richebourg Grand Cru, a Burgundian red wine hailing from Côte de Nuits.

The three most expensive wines in the world are French wines from Burgundy

It’s no surprise that the three most expensive wines in the world are French wines from Burgundy. However, it wasn't the well-known Romanée Conti which came out on top. What’s the story behind this exceptional wine which took the top spot and why did it so well?
Well-informed aficionados certainly know about this wine. For readers who have not yet heard of it, allow Le Connoisseur to explain.

The Henri Jayer estate is very much a mythical presence in Burgundy. Henri Jayer, nicknamed “the God of Burgundies”, was renowned for being an exceptional winemaker; and everything exceptional is of great interest to Le Connoisseur! A veritable wine master, he produced very few bottles per year. The concept of “good” and “bad” years wasn’t much of a concern for this miracle worker. No matter the vintage, his wine always stood head and shoulders above the rest for its exemplary flavour. However, it seems very few individuals have had the privilege to sample it.

Henri Jayer passed away in 2006 The last bottle he produced dates back to 2000. These sophisticated, intense, unique wines remain legendary to this day; and for collectors and connoisseurs worldwide, they are worth their weight in gold.
